‘O.J.: Made in America,’ ‘Weiner’ Among 15 Documentaries to Advance in Oscar Race

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Tuesday the names of 15 documentary features to advance in the race to the Oscars.

Among those on the shortlist are “O.J.: Made in America,” the ESPN documentary on O.J. Simpson directed by Ezra Edelman, and “Weiner,” Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg’s look at Anthony Weiner following his high-profile sexting scandal.

Also advancing are Ava DuVernay’s “13th,” which centers on race in the criminal justice system in America; “The Ivory Game,” a Leonardo DiCaprio-backed film taking on the poaching of elephants; and Raoul Peck’s “I Am Not Your Negro,” which garnered critical acclaim out of the festival circuit.
